Valheim is a beautiful game, and there will be many moments where you’ll want to take a screenshot. Here are some tips to get the screenshot you need.
Removing HUD
Scrolling the mouse wheel will zoom the camera in and out of the player character, but sometimes this isn’t enough to get the shot you want. And the HUD can often block out the scenery on the edges of the screen.
To remove the HUD, simply press Ctrl + F3 at any time. This will remove all menus and displays from your screen, meaning that you will be able to take a completely clear screenshot. Press them again to bring the HUD back.

How to use free camera
It is also possible to pause the game and use a flying camera to take screenshots of anything you like. This takes a few more steps than simply removing the HUD. To begin, you need to enter console mode.
How to enter console mode
Entering console mode in Valheim is relatively simple, but it must be done before you load up the game via Steam.
- Go to your Library and select Valheim
- Click on the Settings icon called ‘Manage’
- Click ‘Properties’
Once you’ve followed these steps, the below popup window will appear:

In the final box, type ‘-console’ exactly as it is on the screen. Once you have done this, load the game and click ‘Play Valheim’.
Entering ‘freefly’ mode
The free camera mode in Valheim is known as ‘freefly’. If you have followed the above steps, you should be able to press F5 and the screen below should appear.

Once you’re in this mode, type in ‘devcommands’. It will show ‘Dev commands: True’.
Please note: The console command used to be ‘imacheater’ but it has since changed to ‘devcommands’
Typing in ‘help’ will give you a list of other commands that you can use too.

After this, type in ‘freefly’. Your player character will be completely still and your movement keys will now be attached to the camera, and you will be able to fly the camera all over the map and raise as high or as low as possible.

Typing ‘freefly’ again will cancel the freefly mode and typing in ‘devcommands’ will return the console to ‘Dev commands: False’, and return the game to its regular mode.
Pressing ESC will pause the game when you are in this mode, so you don’t need to worry about being attacked by mobs while trying to take the perfect photo.
